Spring and Summer 2009
ACA is actively building its knowledge and drawing on its related experience to provide valuable assistance to states in various stages of Medicaid Information Technology Architecture (MITA) projects.
We are convinced of the synergy between our integration philosophy and the MITA initiative. In line with the initiative’s goals, our consulting and integration services help customers implement efficient business processes, interoperable yet customized data systems, and comprehensive, uniformly presented data.
MITA is an initiative aimed at standardizing state Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) and business processes, while allowing each state the flexibility within this framework to tailor systems and operations to their individual needs. Led by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), this initiative’s goal is to promote interoperability and data sharing across state and organizational lines.
ACA is building relationships with leading CMS staff and public and private organizations who are closely involved in the MITA initiative, and we are participating in the Health Level 7 (HL7) MITA workgroup. Because of our comparable experience working with public welfare programs in MMIS and business improvement projects, and because of the growing need for competent consultants, we have been strongly encouraged to become involved with MITA projects.
ACA has done extensive research on MITA and intends to become involved in this initiative as a MITA consultant, helping states to assess their current business processes, educating them about MITA, and helping them to develop a plan for aligning their business processes with MITA goals. Our research, coupled with speaking with key CMS and state personnel, has given us a solid understanding of the process and tools necessary to complete MITA projects.
